M-NCPPC MONTGOMERY PARKS CELEBRATES DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE WITH WEED WARRIOR WORK DAY AT ROCK CREEK REGIONAL PARK
Most parks and facilities will be open Monday with the exception of Brookside Gardens and the Nature Centers.
SILVER SPRING, MD—Montgomery Parks, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) will recognize Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day this Monday, January 21, 2013 with a special Weed Warrior National Day of Service project at Rock Creek Regional Park. Weed Warrior volunteers directed by Montgomery Parks’ staff will work in collaboration with staff from Go Ape!—the treetop adventure course located in the park—to remove non-native invasive plants. Volunteers are welcome to participate in the effort and can learn more about how to get involved here or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Montgomery Parks’ Weed Warrior program, started in 1999, is comprised of an estimated 800 citizen volunteers who assist park staff on a regular basis in monitoring and removing non-native invasive plant species (NNIs) from parkland.

Ice skating rinks will observe standard operating schedules.

- Wheaton Indoor Tennis at Wheaton Regional Park: Open 8AM – 11PM. Visit www.WheatonTennis.com or call 301-905-3030 for court availability.
Brookside Gardens Visitors Center and Conservatories will be closed. The grounds will be open and previously booked programs /events will run as scheduled.
Montgomery Parks Nature Centers will be closed. The nature center grounds will be open for exploration.

The Montgomery Parks Permit Office will be closed including both synthetic turf fields at Blair High School and Fairland Recreational Park. All the Park Activity Buildings will be open for customers with existing reservations.
