Why to go:  Enjoy wines from Maryland's best wineries, live music, and a cooking demonstration. Wine tasting fee includes commemorative wine glass for first 2,000 paid attendees.

Pricing:  Free for concerts and cooking demonstrations, $15.00 to participate in wine tasting.

 

Where:  Cultural Arts Center, Montgomery College, 7995 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD

When:  Friday, August 24, 2012, 6:30 p.m.

Why to go:   This event will honor veterans, teachers and many others returning to regular routines after summer. The event includes speakers, meditation, dancers, singers, comedy and more.

Where:  Wheaton Ice Arena11717 Orebaugh Ave, Wheaton, MD

When:  Friday, August 24, 2012, 8:00 p.m.

Why to go:  Every Friday night it's Teen Sk8 at Wheaton Ice Arena. Follow the rules for each week's theme and get admission for a discounted rate. Please see web site for each week's theme.

Pricing:  $6.50

 

Where:  Brookside Gardens1800 Glenallan Ave, Silver Spring, MD

When:  Saturday, August 25, 2012, 10:00 a.m.

Why to go:  Meet with master gardeners who can help you figure out everything from how to get rid of insect pests to the best weed deterrents to use for your garden.

When:  Saturday, August 25, 2012, 11:00 a.m.

Why to go:  Qur’an classes offer recitation and memorization for children 12 years and under. Please contact MCC for more information.

Where:  Westfield Shopping Town Wheaton11160 Veirs Mill Rd, Silver Spring, MD

When:  Saturday, August 25, 2012, 11:00 a.m.

Why to go:  Family Fun Day for Big Kids (ages 6 & up).  Kids will make their very own, personalized picture frame helping to commemorate the fun they had this summer.  They will be able to add a photo they took over the summer to keep those memories alive.

Where:  3220 17th St NW, Washington, DC

When: Saturday, August 25, 2012, 1:30 p.m. – 2:15 p.m.

Why to go:  Check out fitness classes with trainer Chay every Saturday from 1:30 to 2:15. For just $10.00, see if these classes are right for you. If you decide to join the gym, the $99.00 joining fee will be waived and these classes will be free.  

Pricing: $10.00

 

Where:  Bethesda Metro Center, 7450 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD 20814

When:  Friday, August 24, 2012, 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Why to go:  The Greater Bethesda Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce, Bethesda Urban Partnership, and Bethesda Chevy Chase Regional Services Center will honor U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist Katie Ledecky as well as U.S. Olympians Scott Parsons and Julie Zetlin. The celebration will be followed by the Metro Center Dance Concert featuring Cityscape from 6-8pm.

Where:  Art League of Germantown, 12901 Town Commons Drive, Germantown, MD 20874

When:  Tuesday, August 23 – Sunday,   August 26, 2012, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Why to go:  Check out art and crafts from local artists.

Where: The Arts Barn 311 Kent Square Road, Gaithersburg, MD

When:  August 10 through 26, 2012, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. 

Why to go:  Fuddy Meers tells the story of Claire, an amnesiac who awakens each morning as a blank slate. As she attempts to regain her memory one morning, she is abducted by a limping, lisping man who claims her husband wants to kill her. This sets off one harrowing and hilarious turn after another as Claire spends the day trying to decipher her fractured life while being surrounded by a group of alarmingly bizarre characters.

*Note: This show contains adult language and mature themes and is appropriate for those 17 and older.

Pricing:  Admission is $16, $14 for City residents.

Montgomery county's only roller derby team, the Black-Eyed Suzies, are having their first home opener Saturday evening in Rockville after it was rescheduled due to the derecho.
