It has been clear all along that Westfield and the County Council don't give a rat's rear about the Wheaton community. All Westfield has ever done is take from the community while returning virtually nothing. It's also interesting that the County Council, which thought it more important to honor its agreement with Westfield to dole out $4,000,000 of taxpayer money rather than restore crucial budget cuts, has taken an interest in controlling Big Box development now that it is coming to areas other than Wheaton. A Costco in Bethesda or Potomac would be just as inappropriate, but you needn't ever worry about that happening. Where were our elected officials when they were needed most? If this Costco is the best Montgomery County can do for economic development, then the County's troubles are far deeper than most people realize. Talk about closing the barn door after the horse has bolted! Ervin and Reimer have failed us miserably, as have local politicians and civic leaders. Once Costco is here, it ain't going away and the Wheaton community will be left, as usual, to deal with the all the negatives on its own.
