Police Investigate Carjacking at Burger King

Police believe it was "a crime of opportunity"--unrelated to the kidnappings and robberies at Wheaton Plaza.

Another carjacking occurred in Wheaton early this morning, but police say it appears unrelated to the three kidnappings and robberies in Wheaton Plaza still under investigation.

Montgomery County Police received a call at 1:02 a.m. from the Burger King at 12265 Veirs Mill Road, near the corner of Veirs Mill Road and Randolph Road.

Police say that the two victims, a male and a female, had driven to the Burger King looking for something to eat. They checked the restaurant door, but it was locked. Police say that two men sitting at a table outside the Burger King then approached the victims. One presented a handgun and told the victims to give him the keys to their car, a white Honda Civic. The suspects also demanded the victims' cell phones and a wallet. The suspects then took the vehicle and drove away.

No one was hurt.

One of the suspects is described as a black male, 20 to 24 years old, 5’9”–6’0” tall. He was wearing a black skull cap, a black scarf covering his mouth and nose, a black jacket and black cargo pants. He was armed with a black handgun, police said. The second suspect is described as a black male, 20 to 24 years old, 5’5”-5’9” tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black and white checkered scarf, black hat and black jeans, according to police.

Police have not yet located the car, which has Maryland tags 13801CE.
