Montgomery County Readers' Choice Winners: St. Patrick's Day Picks

Where do Patch readers in the area go to celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

We asked Patch readers across the region to tell us about their favorite places to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Here’s a look at some of the winners:

In the poll that ran on Bethesda, Chevy Chase, North Potomac-Darnestown and Potomac Patches, a corner cupcake shop in Friendship Heights, Chevy Chase, beat out the bars as readers' favorite place to honor the holiday. The spring green-frosted, shamrock-topped cupcakes at Frosting, A Cupcakery, received 37 percent of the vote. Ri Ra Irish Pub in Bethesda came in second, with 22 percent of the vote.

For readers in Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Wheaton and Kensington, the Royal Mile Pub was far-and-away the most popular choice, as it received 75 percent of the votes in the poll.

In Rockville, readers' preferred pub on St. Patrick's Day is Dietle's Tavern, while in Colesville, readers choose to head to McGinty's Public House in Silver Spring for March 17 festivities.

In Prince George's County, Patch readers in Riverdale Park, College Park, Greenbelt and Hyattsville chose Riverdale Park's S & J Bar and Restaurant, "which overwhelmingly won the most votes for best place to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day," Patch reported.

And, south of the border in Georgetown, Washington, DC, The Tombs won about three-fourths of the vote.

How did you miss Quincy's in Gaithersburg? I had a terrific Irish breakfast served after spending 45 frustating minutes in an unsuccessful hunt for handicap parking at the Rio for the morning parade (poor planning there on part of the organizers). But Quincy's returned "My smiling Irish eyes."

On St. Patrick's Day, you can't beat the Irish Inn at Glen Echo, MD. It has true Irish music, great pub fare. For a real Irish experience, far better than a green-iced cupcake, go here. Or don't - it's already quite crowded.
