Ride On Bus Crashes into Silver Spring KFC

Crash in Glenmont area; driver and one passenger transported to hospital with non-serious injuries.

Update, 4 p.m:

MCPD's preliminary investigation found that as 54-year-old driver, Andrew Tom Kamara, attempted to make a left-hand turn on Georgia Avenue southbound, the bus struck a curb, travelled across all lanes of southbound Georgia, crossed the median and then all lanes of the northbound side and continued until it hit the KFC restaurant.

Of the three passengers on the bus, only one, Asteria Angulo, a 73-year-old from Silver Spring, was transported to the hospitial along with driver Kamara for non-life threatening injuries.

Original story, 9 a.m.:

A Ride On bus leaving the Glenmont Metro area took a hard left turn and crashed into the KFC on the corner of Georgia Avenue and Urbana Drive, straight into the door and inside the building.

Police on the scene said they believe the driver passed out at the wheel and lost control of the bus this morning around 7:30 a.m. The KFC was not open at the time, although the manager was in the back of the building.

According to Captain Oscar Garcia of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, the bus driver and one passenger were transported to a hospital with minor, non-life threatening injuries.

The bus, traveling Ride On route 33, will be taken out of the KFC by tow-truck.
