Seoul Food DC Opens in Wheaton

Step inside the new Korean food truck turned restaurant on University Boulevard.

Anna and Jon Goree no longer feel like they are dependent on the whim of the elements to sell chicken bibimbap and ginger honey tea.

The couple has parked their Arlington, VA-based food truck on the corner of Georgia Avenue and University Boulevard in Wheaton, where they've moved their family and set up shop in a small space attached to the Exxon gas station.

Seoul Food DC opened Monday, and the Gorees are still getting used to the different flow of traffic. Now customers can sit down at the counter and chat to the cooks, something they would feel guilty about doing if it meant holding up the long line in front of the food truck at lunchtime, Jon says.

The Gorees are both former Whole Foods employees: Anna worked as a pastry chef, and Jon as a meat cutter. Jon says that their experience there helped nurture a sense of ownership and independence, so they launched the food truck on Aug. 22, 2011.

In what will likely be welcome news for Seoul Food DC's more than 1,800 followers on Twitter, the couple is looking to hire workers to operate the food truck and get it back on streets in Northern Virginia and Washington, DC.
