Find out where you can volunteer in Montgomery County this weekend.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a time to celebrate the civil rights activist and his life's work, but it's also an opportunity to volunteer in the community. Find out how various groups in Montgomery County are serving:

Weed Warrior

Montgomery Parks has organized a special Weed Warrior National Day of Service project on Monday at Rock Creek Regional Park.

Beret Park Clean-Up

Montgomery Parks, the Rock Creek Conservancy and volunteers from other groups will come together for a Saturday morning clean-up of the Beret Neighborhood Conservation Area of Rock Creek in Aspen Hill. Meet at 3400 Beret Lane, Aspen Hill, at 9 a.m.

Service Projects and Volunteer Fair

The Bethesda North Conference Center will host a service projects and volunteer fair on Monday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Participants can assist with projects helping children, seniors and veterans, from packing food boxes and lunches for shelters to making fleece blankets for Montgomery Hospice. Learn more at the Montgomery County Volunteer Services website here.

Silver Spring Service Site

The Volunteer Center is partnering with Youth Activities of Seventh Day Adventist in hosting a service site location at the Silver Spring Civic Building on Monday, Jan. 21 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.   Contact Erica Wilson at wheatonsda@hotmail.com or 240-383-7428 for more information about the event.
