Shades of Green Launches in Wheaton
Montgomery County's Planning Department is offering free trees to qualifying business owners in the Wheaton Central Business District.
If you live in the Wheaton Central Business District, you may be eligible for a free tree under a new Planning Department program in Montgomery County.
Interested property owners can submit an application to the Planning Department, and if selected must sign a two-year watering agreement.
Funding for the Shades of Green program comes from payments from developers for trees lost during the development process.
See a map of the Wheaton Central Business District to determine whether your property falls within the borders.
Free trees will also be offered to residents of Montgomery Hills and the Silver Spring Central Business District.
Will you be signing up for a free tree? Tell us in the comments.

Please rephrase this. The treees are not 'free.'. What this really means is that Montgomery County citizens are subsidizing businesses to plant trees.
