Stream Restoration Begins on Northwest Branch Trail
The trail will remain open during construction with temporary detours, according to Montgomery Parks.
From time to time, the trails in the Wheaton area require their share of maintenance.
This spring, Montgomery Parks has begun a stream restoration project on the Northwest Branch Trail at Kemp Mill Road and Glenallan Road.
Workers will reconstruct the trail, stabilize the stream banks, control the stream grade and make minor bridge repairs, Montgomery Parks announced.
During construction, the trail will remain open with temporary detours, but caution is advised. The project is scheduled to be completed by June 1.

Re-alignment of these trails should include access to bikes (the pedaling kind). Allowing horses (who frequently inflict serious damage to trails) while prohibiting mountain bikes is inconsistant with the role parks play in encouraging kids and others to get outside and off the couch. Montgomery County needs to re-evaluate these outdated modes of thinking, reach out and expand its user/volunteer base of other trail users. Currently, the closest trails (from Wheaton) I can take my daughter to learn how to ride her bike or ride my own consist of driving out to Fairland Regional park or a few small social trails in Wheaton Regional. You can do be better MoCo!
