AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR TO PRESENT FREE HORTICULTURE LECTURE AT BROOKSIDE GARDENS IN WHEATON, MD
An expert and award-winning book author on planting design will present a free lecture A New Vegetable Garden Aesthetic, Oct. 25, 6:30-8 p.m., at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, Md. Registration is required for the event, which will be held in the Visitors Center Auditorium.
Scott C. Scarfone, ASLA, is the author of an award-winning book Professional Planting Design: An Architectural and Horticultural Approach for Creating Mixed Bed Plantings, which earned a Merit Award from the Maryland/Potomac Chapters of the American Society of Landscape Architects in 2007. A registered landscape architect and a certified professional horticulturist, he is a sought-after instructor and has lectured at some of the nation’s most prestigious institutions, botanical gardens, and arboreta as well as at many professional societies’ national conferences. Scarfone is principal at and founder of Oasis Design Group, a landscape architecture, urban design and master planning firm in Baltimore.
A New Vegetable Garden Aesthetic is free. Online registration is available at www.ParkPASS.org for Park Pass registered members and for those who create a new account. More About Brookside Gardens
At the north end of Wheaton's Regional Park is the colorful and calm Brookside Gardens, a showcase garden with trails. Photography is popular here, but only individual photographers can snap away without a permit. The conservatory offers a daily live butterfly show, usually mid April through early September, while the visitor center offers information on the gardens, as well as a gift shop.
