Hunting for a New Recipe? Try Venison Chili

Try some "thick, hardy, bone stickin' chili" served with jalapeno cornbread.

Whether you're a hunter with a surplus of venison in the freezer or just hunting for a new recipe, local chef and blogger Carol Woelfel Thames offers recipes for chili and jalapeno cornbread. She says it's a meal that would be party perfect to serve while watching playoff games this weekend.

"Is there anything better than sitting down at your big screen TV to watch the playoff games?" she writes in her blog. "Why, yes there is. Sitting down at your big screen TV to watch the playoffs with a big bowl of venison chili in one hand and a hot piece of jalapeno cornbread in the other hand."

The chili recipe is definitely for meat lovers—in addition to two pounds of venison, it calls for a pound of sausage—and is described as "thick, hardy, bone stickin’ chili."

A jar of jalapenos and a cup of sharp cheddar kicks up the flavor of ordinary cornbread to provide the perfect companion to the venison chili. Click here for the cornbread recipe.
