Metrorail News: Red Line Weekend Track Work
Prepare for delays on the Red Line this weekend.
Single-tracking Red Line trains this weekend will lead to some delays for Metrorail passengers, according to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
Red Line trains will operate every 24 minutes throughout the weekend, and customers should add on an extra 20 minutes of travel time to their trips.
From 10 p.m. on Friday, June 1, through closing on Sunday, June 3, trains will single-track through two work areas—between the Forest Glen and Takoma Park stations (to allow for platform reconstruction and fiberoptic cable installation) and between the Van Ness and Friendship Heights stations (to allow for rail and fastener renewal and joint elimination for a smoother ride), WMATA added.

Additional trains will run between the Van Ness and New York Avenue stations between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, "providing service every 12 minutes in the downtown core," WMATA reported on its website.
"On Saturday, June 2, the Metrorail system will open two hours early (5 a.m.) for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure," WMATA added.
