Silver Spring is usually a pleasant place to walk around during the day, but in hot weather people find alternatives to keep themselves cool.
Here are a few that are fun and easy to reach:
- The Silver Spring Plaza fountain: Although this isn’t an official cooling station for downtown, many families bring their kids here to splash around and beat the heat.
- : With the heat index expected to rise to 105, sitting in a library and reading a great book would be nice. The most recently recommended summer-reading picks from Montgomery County librarians include The Reading Promise: My Father and the Books We Shared by Alice Ozma, Kite Day: A Bear and Mole Story by Will Hillenbrand, and Drums, Girls & Dangerous Pie by Jordon Sonnenblick.
- : This pool is open to the public and is located at 1201 Jackson Road in Silver Spring. Just bring your identification. The fee is $4 for kids ages 1 to 17 and $6 for adults. Contact number 240-777-8060.
