Bites Nearby: Matuba

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Wheaton Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

--Family dining and sushi usually don’t go hand-in-hand, but that’s the case with Matuba. The welcoming staff is more than happy to suggest what types of sushi newcomers might enjoy, but also knowledgeable enough to point adventurous diners in the right direction; the dining setup is child friendly, but not so drab that it will take away from the experience; and the prices are lower than most other sushi restaurants, but not so cheap that you question how they could get fresh fish and still make a profit.

Amongst their trademarks is their Tuna Tataki Roll: seared tuna, topped with a sweet sauce that gives it a unique tang--not complex, but oh so delicious.

Some of their rolls do tend to be a little bit heavy on the rice, so if you're picky about getting a good amount of fish in your sushi, be sure to stick to the nigiri.

If you're not in the mood for sushi, the udon noodle soup is fantastic, especially on a cold day or when trying to kick a lingering cold. And for an appetizer, seaweed salad is always a good bet.
