Ruja Shemer paints mainly in transparent watercolor, but also uses oil and acrylic paints. Her first love is watercolor - the flow and luminous tones of the medium, the gradation of colors, and the glow of the white paper showing through the washes. Ruja has always been interested in the creative arts, including knitting, sewing, painting and gardening.

After her children were grown, she attended Montgomery College and got a degree in Graphic Arts.  She worked in advertising and printing, and then decided to take watercolor classes as an artistic outlet. Those classes have been part of her life for the last 17 years, enabling Ruja to exhibit in juried and group shows.
