Grab & Go Kids Planner: March 23 through March 29

If the family's excited to get out and enjoy all the beauty of spring, this is the week to get started.

Spring has finally arrived and we're excited to tell you about some of the fun outdoor events the D.C. metro area has to offer families in our weekly Grab & Go Kids Planner. If there's an event you think we should highlight in the future, feel free to tell us in the comments.

A D.C. area favorite festival begins this weekend! There will be cherry blossoms blooming along the Tidal Basin and breathtaking kites in the sky on the Mall, but there are also some great events going on closer to home that you and the kids may want to try out. Here's what's up:

•  AT COLOR ME MINE
Where/When:  in Downtown Silver Spring hosts this event on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Why Go: Whether you want a night out with friends or an evening out with the family, this is a great way to bond over some painting and pottery for a low price.
Pricing: $15 studio fee per table

• CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL
Where/When: The festivities begin on Saturday and continue through April 10. 
Why Go: This is a local favorite festival. There will be a variety of events for the whole family at venues throughout the area. Check out the website for details on events and locations. 
Pricing: Most events are FREE.

• BLOSSOM KITE FESTIVAL
Where/When: Let the wind (or the Metro) carry you over to the National Mall on Sunday. The Blossom Kite Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Go: Can't make it to some of the Cherry Blossom Festival events? This is one you won't want to miss. Enjoy kite flying competitions, a Rokkaku Battle, watch beautiful kite sail across the sky or bring your own favorite kite and join the fun!
Pricing: FREE

Where/When: Head over to Adventure Theatre in beautiful Glen Echo Park.
Why Go: Take the family on a stroll through Glen Echo Park and then go watch a favorite children's book come to life. Your kids will love the park and the show!
Pricing: $15 per ticket

Where/When: The show begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday at .
Why Go: Get your kids out to Strathmore to see some amazing animals — animal costumes, that is. This performance features beautiful sets and costumes portraying animals, some real and some imaginary.
Pricing: $15 to $35 per ticket
