Patch Picks: Summer Camps

Yes, it's that time again. Time to think about summer camps.

Patch Picks is a weekly Thursday column, where you’ll find useful lists to help you, your family, friends, and significant others find the best places for everything from Sunday brunch to New Year’s Eve celebrations, pumpkin patches, date night destinations, florists, girlfriend nights out, kids party places, parks and more, as well as some cool things.

This week, we're looking at a range of summer camp options. The season may be months away, but some registrations are already open, and many are sure to fill up quickly. Beyond our few selections below, there are a lot more to investigate. We'll ask our Moms Council next week more intel on the best and the most interesting camps.

Wheaton Park Stables

Have a horse-friendly kid, or one who wants to be? Wheaton Park Stables are offering two-week camps for all skill levels, including beginners. The sessions are all in the mornings.

Camp Sonshine

Located in Silver Spring and Germantown, Camp Sonshine has both a "late-stay" and overnight options for a range of ages. Sonshine has a Christian focus, and they'll have an open house on March 26, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Evergreen School

This Montessori school offers both traditional, sports and Montessori programs for the summer. The age ranges from 2 and half to 10 years old.

Montgomery Recreational Department Summer Camps

The Recreational Department camps are hard to beat for price and range of camps your child might be interested in. Check out their Summer 2011 catalogue for more details.

Camp Ahava

Camp Ahava takes places right in Kemp Mill, at the Silver Spring Jewish Center. The day program for four to twelve year olds, with a counselor-in-training program for older students, offers a range of trips and programs, including baking,  drama, music and dance,  Judaics, gymnastics, and Yoga.
