Sunday: Salvadoran American Day Festival in Wheaton

The Aug. 4 festival will feature Salvadoran food, crafts and music.

Salvadoran American Day is Aug. 4, and Montgomery County is commemorating with a free festival in Wheaton on Sunday.

The Salvadoran American Day Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Wheaton Triangle, and will feature Salvadoran food, traditional crafts and live music by local and international artists.

A variety of community services will also be available, including a Latino Health Fair, organized by Maryland State Delegate Ana Sol Gutierrez, where residents will receive free and confidential health screenings such as blood pressure, cholesterol, vision, dental, HIV, etc.

Montgomery County is organizing the festival in partnership with the Salvadoran American Transnational Communities.

The event will take place in the parking lot at the corner of Reedie Drive and Grandview Avenue, one block north of the Wheaton Metro Station. Free parking can be found in the Metro garages on Veirs Mill Road and Georgia Avenue, and at Reedie Drive and Georgia Avenue. There is also a county parking garage at Reedie Drive and Fern Street.
