Spring Lecture Series: Capital Splendor Gardens

  • Where: Brookside Gardens, 1800 Glenallan Ave, Wheaton
  • When: Friday, April 12, 10 a.m.
  • Description: Providing a framework of garden design concepts, this talk focuses on area public gardens and their past owners and landscape architects.  Learn about George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate, River Farm, Meridian Hill Park, Tudor Place, Hillwood Estate, Dumbarton Oaks, Tregaron Estate, Ladew Topiary Gardens, and the U.S. Botanic Garden.  Brookside’s rapidly approaching new entrance design and other future plans will be discussed. A book signing will follow the program.

Garlic Mustard No More!

  • Where: Brookside Nature Center, 1400 Glenallan Ave, Wheaton, MD |
  • When: Saturday, April 13, 2 p.m.
  • Description: Families and groups, warm up for the Garlic Mustard Pull! We'll tug, pull, yank, pluck and do whatever's necessary to perfect our technique and get that bothersome plant out of our forests!

Softball: Wheaton HS vs. Einstein HS

  • Description:  Poets are welcome to come read their works in front of a live audience.

School House Rock! Live! at The Arts Barn

  • Where:  311 Kent Square Rd, North Potomac 
  • When: Saturday, April 13, 2 p.m.
  • Description:  School House Rock Saturday morning cartoons ‘come to life’ at the Arts Barn.

Parents Night Out at My Gym Bethesda

  • Where:  My Gym Bethesda, 5110 Ridgefield Rd, Bethesda
  • When:  Friday, April 12, 6 p.m.
  • Description:  Kids ages 3 and up will have their own party for 3 hours with supervision, games, sports, crafts and pizza while parents go out and enjoy themselves.

Sugarloaf Crafts Festival

  • Where:  16 Chestnut St, Gaithersburg
  • When:  Friday, April 12, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Sunday, April 14, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Description:  More than 250 crafts people display and sell their handcrafted items. Music, entertainment and gourmet treats available for purchase.

Campfire and Nature Walk

  • Where:  Locust Grove Nature Center, 7777 Democracy Blvd, Bethesda
  • When:  Friday, April 12, 6:30 p.m.
  • Description:  Ages 3 and up are invited to enjoy a campfire picnic followed by an evening nature walk.  Bring your own hotdogs and rolls.  S’mores ingredients will be provided. Register at ParkPASS.org.
  • Cost:  $5

Denim & Diamonds Gala Fundraiser for Wells/Robertson House

  • Where:  Hilton Gaithersburg, 620 Perry Pkwy, Gaithersburg
  • When:  Friday, April 12, 7 p.m.
  • Description:  Participants are invited to wear their favorite jeans and jewels and help heal homelessness and addiction. The event features dinner,d ancing and a silent auction,  hosted by the Friends of Wells/Robertson House, Inc. for the benefit of Gaithersburg's transitional program for men and women in recovery.
  • Cost:  $50

Tour de Cookie

  • Where:  51 Mannakee St, Rockville
  • When:  Sunday, April 14, 9 a.m.
  • Description:  Tree House invites participants to ride bikes from one bake sale to the next.  The distance can be anywhere from 14-40 miles.  Money raised in this event will go to help abused and neglected children.
  • Cost:  $40
