Seen but Not Heard: A Tour From the Perspective of the Beall Family’s Enslaved

  • Where:  Montgomery County Historical Society, 111 W Montgomery Ave, Rockville
  • When:  Saturday, April 27, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Description:  A Tour from the Perspective of the Beall Family’s Enslaved follows Lucy Jackson, a personal servant of Margaret Beall, as she tells visitors about her experience while working at the Beall-Dawson House. 
  • Cost: $5

Free Screening of MARRIED IN SPANDEX

  • Where:  Takoma Park Community Center Auditorium, 7500 Maple Ave, Takoma Park
  • When: Friday, April 26, 7:30 p.m.
  • Description:  Silver Spring-based film nonprofit, Docs In Progress and We Are Takoma are co-presenting a documentary screening of MARRIED IN SPANDEX. This is a free program which is open to the public.

The Maryland Thoroughbred Charity Horse Show

  • Where:  Prince Georges Equestrian Center, 14900 Pennsylvania Avenue, Upper Marlboro
  • When:  Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 8:30 a.m.
  • Description:  The Maryland Thoroughbred Charity Horse Show, benefitting Thoroughbred Placement Resources, will take place at the Prince George’s Equestrian Center Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro.  The Maryland Thoroughbred Charity Horse Show is a Hunter/Jumper competition open to all Jockey Club registered Thoroughbred horses. The Hunter and Jumper divisions of the show are designed to offer off- the- track thoroughbreds of all levels the opportunity to compete at a professional facility in an inviting environment.

From Pest to Pesto

  • Where:  Meadowside Nature Center, 5100 Meadowside Ln, Rockville
  • When: Saturday, April 27, 10 a.m.
  • Description:  April is Garlic Mustard month in Montgomery Parks.  Visitors are invited to help remove the garlic and mustard plants from the park and then get a tasty garlic mustard pesto recipe to take home. Visitors should wear long pants, close-toed shoes, long sleeves, and bring leather gloves if they have them.

Bark For Life of Montgomery County

  • Where:  20930 Lake Ridge Dr, Boyds
  • When:  Saturday, April 27, 9 a.m.
  • Description:  The American Cancer Society Bark For LifeTM is a noncompetitive walk event for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.

Paws in the Park Dog Walk & Fest

  • Where:  506 S Frederick Ave, Gaithersburg
  • When:  Sunday, April 28, 12 p.m.
  • Description:   As a signature special event of the Montgomery County Humane Society, held in partnership with the City of Gaithersburg, this event raises funds to help homeless and abandoned animals throughout Montgomery County.

  • When:  Friday, April 26, Saturday, April 27, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
  • Description:  McLean School of Maryland presents Oklahoma!, the first musical written by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

The Race to End Poverty 4K Walk/Run

  • Where:  7901 Meadowbrook Ln, Chevy Chase
  • When:  Saturday, April 27, 9 a.m.
  • Description:  The Race to End Poverty 4K is sponsored by A Wider Circle, a local non-profit that seeks to help families and children lift themselves out of poverty.
