April Food Inspection Closings: Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Wheaton

Three Montgomery County restaurants inspected by Montgomery County's Licensure and Regulatory Services Program had violations that caused the establishments to close for a time in April, according to Data Montgomery.

• Bubble Tea Cafe, at 11160 Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton, was closed April 5 after inspectors observed a lack of proper hand washing technique and a lack of hot or cold running water.
• Jason's Sub, at 916 East-West Highway in Takoma Park, was closed April 5 after being cited for not keeping hot food at the right temperature and for a lack of hot or cold running water. 
• Taco Mex, at 13830 Old Columbia Pike in Silver Spring, was closed April 12 when food inspectors observed that food was not being protected from potential contamination and higher than normal occurrence of rodents and/or insects. 

Data Montgomery reports the results of all inspections of food establishments in the county. Businesses may be cited for a number of violations, although only a select few require immediate closure and correction.

A lack of hot water is the most common cause of closures, said Ken Welch, program manager for the Office of Licensure and Regulatory Services. Most businesses are able to reopen the same day.
