Best Of Rockville Patch: Barbecue

We kick off a new feature by asking you to rate Rockville's best barbecue.

Last month, , which featured a newcomer to Rockville’s growing list of barbecue joints.

This week we bring our discussion of the best barbecue even closer to home with the debut of a new feature, “Best of Rockville Patch.”

Here are some of our favorite places:

  • (Includes a new location at the former Urban Burger in Rock Creek Village Center. Is there a difference between the barbecue at the two locations? Let us know below.)

If you’re a big fan of a particular place, pump them up by submitting, menus, photos or other multi-media.

Got a favorite not included in our poll? If it’s in Rockville, write it in the comments below. If it’s not in Rockville, look for it in a coming “Best Of” in its Patch town.

Click “Nearby” in the upper right corner of the site to view this week’s “Best Of” in a neighboring Patch town.

Over the coming weeks we’ll highlight other “Best Of Rockville Patch” categories that highlight more local businesses and things to do. It’s an opportunity to learn more about our town while supporting local businesses and helping to keep Rockville dollars in Rockville. Besides, everyone loves a good debate about who offers the best this or where’s the best place for that.

Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be chosen based on poll results and reviews on Patch Places. Please vote only once per survey, per Patch.

Voting closes at 9 a.m. Friday.

The winner will be announced at noon Friday.

So tell us who has Rockville’s best barbecue. And write a comment below to tell us why.

Editor's Note: We're sad to report that recently closed. We've replaced it in the poll with Blue Ribbon BBQ.

It is truly the uninformed nouveau 'cue enthusiast that even compares Urban or Branded '72 (formerly O'Brien's) to chain grub like Famous Dave's or Red, Hot and Blue. This is akin to comparing Five Guys to McDonalds. Puh-lease.

Branded '72 is some of the best bbq I've ever tasted. The portions are generous and the price is right. If you want REAL bbq, steer clear of chains and go for the real thing at Branded!

When O'Brien's became Branded '72 did the food change? I'm a huge fan of Urban BBQ, but I didn't particularly like O'Brien's. So, I'd like to know if I should give Branded a chance now that it's under new management.

Hey Peter - The meat continues to be cooked the same way since 1972 - which is in one of three closed pits using an indirect heating method. The fuel is ONLY American "green" hickory from Frederick, MD - we do not use propane or any gas in our smokers. So what you taste is only USDA prime meat and American smoke! Let me know next time you are in and I can give you a tour. Regards, matt@branded72.com
