Preview: Breaking Ground at the Safeway

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett is scheduled to speak at the November 9 ceremony.

Although demolition has clearly begun on the Safeway at the corner of Georgia Avenue and Reedie Drive, developers have yet to ceremonially "break the ground." They will do so Wednesday at 10 a.m.

But the groundbreaking is not just for the large grocery store. Foulger-Pratt is developing a 17-story apartment building above the Safeway, called "The Exchange at Wheaton Station."

The Safeway is slated to open in 2013.
