Costco and Westfield Meet with Neighbors Tonight

The project's county funding hinges on hearing the community's concerns.

Representatives from Westfield and Costco will meet with residents tonight to discuss the community's concerns with the incoming big-box store at the Wheaton mall.

The public meeting, featuring members of the Kensington Heights and Kensington View civic associations, starts at 7:30 p.m. at in Wheaton.

The county has committed a total of $4 million to the Costco project, but upon the company hosting this meeting. The Council's resolution mandates that the meeting address the store's loading dock, delivery truck issues, traffic flow, pedestrian access, building elevations, storm-water management and the .

Adam Rosenbaum, vice president of KHCA, said in an e-mail to Patch that the association is optimistic about the meeting and wants to continue the discussion beyond tonight.

"As part of this initial two-hour meeting, we are asking for additional meetings to explore specific aspects of the project in more depth," Rosenbaum said. "We hope that Westfield/Costco will grant us more time in a good-faith effort to again make this the best Costco ever."

i didn't attend the meeting but I can tell you we will have more meetings to discuss the meeting. Basically everyone knows that as long as we have meetings we can keep the statis quo and nothing will be done. No jobs created, no increase in the sales tax revenue, no traffic, no progress towards the future. So lets just have another meeting.

What good does reporting that a meeting is occurring at 7:30 PM on September 14 when the Patch doesn't get delivered until 6:58 AM on September 15? Why wasn't it in the September 14 Patch?

If you live in KHCA's area, they were not hush hush about it at all. I received information by email and there are signs up in the neighborhood. Though I can guess that reps from Westfield and Costco wouldn't have publicized as widely...

Any more word on this? I clicked on the Business section of Patch...and this was one of the featured stores, which is now almost a month old. Where is the outcome of this?
