New Stores on the Horizon for Ennails Avenue, One on Georgia

Posted permits say two hair salons will be moving into downtown spaces

While "to lease" signs and empty store fronts still dot the Wheaton downtown area, at least six spaces in the newly built strip mall on the corner of Ennalls Avenue and Veirs Mill are leased, as well as a space next to the 7-11 and the Yarn Spot between Georgia Avenue and Grandview Avenue.

While Greenhill Realty, the owners of the properties, would not give out tenant information or confirm new lessees in the Wheaton area, posted building permits and in one case, a newly installed sign gave a idea about what would be arriving in these buildings.

  • At 2549 Ennalls, the permit was listed as a hair salon, owner Victoria Bernabe, of Rockville, who owns another hair salon on Triangle Lane.
  • The front windows of 2563 Ennalls are covered with brown paper and the door with newspaper, the space next to it has tools and other items inside.
  • A "leased" sign is prominently displayed at 2559 Ennalls.
  • A sign inside the corner of the building lists 2571, 2563, 2559, 2551, 2549 and 2545 as "leased".
  • On the Department of Permitting's website, 2545's permit was listed for a restaurant.
  • At 11406 C Georgia, set away from the the main street with a separate parking lot, has had "Andrew Salon" installed in blue block letters at the top of the building. The building permit on this space lists the tenant as Warachart Phutmonong of Silver Spring, and the intended business as a hair salon.
A majority of the storefronts at the rebuilt Anchor Inn site remain empty.
