Dr. Maura Ryan Named Athletic Director of Year for District 2 Schools

The Athletic Director for Wheaton High School has been honored as the Athletic Director of the Year for District 2 schools.

The Maryland State Athletic Director's Association (MSADA) selected Wheaton High School's Dr Maura Ryan as Athletic Director of the Year for MSADA District 2B, for MCPS schools. Dr Ryan is also an AP History and Social Studies teacher at Wheaton High School.  She began at Wheaton in 2008 taking over an Athletic Program that once had a long proud history but had fallen into a downward trend. The program has been rebounding slowly with soccer, field hockey, football, wrestling and basketball which are all showing signs of improvement this year.  Before coming to Wheaton she had been a teacher at Springbrook High School for over 20 years and spent 10 years as Softball Coach at Paint Branch High School.  The award will be presented at the annual MSADA Convention Banquet on April 27 in Ocean City, Maryland where the Maryland Athletic Director of the Year will be chosen.  The award is presented to Athletic Administrators who have made a significant impact on the lives of students and used athletics to achieve progress in the social and cultural
environment of the school and the community.
