Dynamite Sports Aims to Set the Record Straight About College Recruiting

A nationally acclaimed educational program designed to equip area high school athletes for college athletics and the recruiting process comes to our area.

On March 7, at 7:30 p.m. Dynamite Sports' nationally acclaimed “Guiding the College-Bound Athlete” recruiting seminar will be presented at Wheaton High School, which will be open to all county athletes from 8th grade through 12th grade.

The mission of Dynamite Sports, a Pennsylvania based corporation, is to provide educational programs to high school athletes and parents, and staff development training and resources to high school coaches and counselors, so everyone involved can make knowledgeable choices and decisions regarding college athletics and the recruiting process.

When Coy Wire was 8 years old, all he talked about was someday playing college football.  His dad, Rick, had not gone to college himself so he knew there was a lot he needed to learn if he was ever going to help his son. As Coy grew up and became more athletic, Rick talked to parents of other athletes to see what they did to help their children prepare for college athletics and the recruiting process. He asked what they liked and disliked about the process, and what they would do differently if they could do it all over again.

After gathering all the information he could, Rick put together his own plan to encompass academic preparation, athletic training, effective marketing and a recruiting strategy to help Coy achieve his goal. Little did he know, all the effort and planning he did for his son would someday become a comprehensive program to help student-athletes of all sports achieve their academic & athletic goals for college. Coy did eventually achieve his goal by receiving a scholarship to play football at Stanford University. His ultimate goal was then reached when he was drafted in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills in 2002.

The Coaches' Circle component of the seminar, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m., is open to area coaches. This session provides staff development for coaches on topics ranging from MRSA, goal setting, recruiting visits, speed training, and sportsmanship. A state of the art "NCAA Calculator," provides the counseling department with the help they need to track academic eligibility for college-bound athletes. And the Student-Athlete & College Recruiting section of the program, at 7:30 p.m., will inform athletes and families on all aspects of the recruiting process.

Any questions regarding the seminar can be sent to the Wheaton High School Athletic Booster President, Chris Culkin, at wheatonboosters@gmail.com.
