Knights Defeat Vikings, 48-47

Wheaton evened their season record to 1-1 with the victory.

On Saturday, the Whitman High School boys basketball team traveled to Wheaton High School looking for their first win.  Unfortuneatly for the Vikings they're still looking.  The Vikings came out quickly while the Knights seemed flat with Whitman firing off to a 9-2 start.  Finally getting on track the Knight came back and traded leads with the Vikings through most of the first half.  The Vikings seemed ready to go into the locker room at the half trailing by only one point.  As the clock ticked down to the final seconds Knights Junior Point Guard Tyron White took the ball just passed half court and let lose a shot, and nailed the three pointer right at the buzzer.  White was the teams leading scorer with 14 points.  Wheaton was in command at the half, 24-20.  In the second half both teams struggled with missed shots especially from the foul line.  Whitman hit on only 7 of 17 foul shots while Wheaton was only a little better hitting on 8 of 16.  Wheaton held a slim lead after three quarters, 33-30.  Whitman Senior Forward Andrew Castagnetti kept the Vikings in the game with a team leading 16 points including three 3-pointers.  The Knights lead 46-38 with less than three minutes left in the game before the Vikings clawed back closing within two points, 46-44.  Wheaton Guard Langston Payne was fouled with 4 seconds left and hit his two free throws to seal the game.  The Vikings Junior Guard Max Steinhorn hit a 3 pointer in the closing second but it wasn't enough.  The Knights next play Blake High School at home, Tuesday, December 11th at 7pm.  Wheaton will also be holding a Food Drive at the game.  Fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item.
