Free Field Hockey Clinic for Wheaton/Silver Spring Area

The Raymond Locke Foundation will be sponsoring a Free Field Hockey clinic next week for the Wheaton/Silver Spring area.  Now in their sixth year of conducting the clinic to the underserved area, the goal is to introduce the game of field hockey to high school novices as well as improve the play of veterans.

The foundation was created following the death of a dedicated youth coach, Raymond Locke.  The foundation got its start in 2006 with daughter Abigail (Abby) serving as one of the Board of Directors, and both her and sister Samantha serving as coaches.  According to the Raymond Locke Foundation web site they have dedicated themselves to, "honor his memory and continue his legacy of encouraging the participation of girls in sports."  Giving back to the community and raising the awareness of the game is the drive.  Abby estimates they have coached/taught the game of Field Hockey to nearly 400 players since they began this effort. "There are a variety of programs that are hoping to help with the outreach of field hockey.  Our foundation hopes to support this effort especially to girls in underserved areas of Montgomery County," says Abby.  Both Abby (2005) and Samantha (2008) are graduates of Bethesda Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda, Maryland, and both played for St. Mary's College of Maryland.

The clinic is open to girls entering 9th grade through 12th grade.  All levels of experience are welcome. Sharpen your dribbling, passing, shooting and stick skills.  The intention is for the clinic to be instructional and fun as well.
