Kennedy and Wheaton High Schools Succeed at County Cheerleading Competition.

The Cheerleading squads for both Kennedy High School and Wheaton High School came away with awards at the Montgomery County Division III Cheerleading competition held Saturday, November 16th at Montgomery Blair High School.  Nine schools in all competed at the 26th Annual event which also included Einstein, Poolesville, Springbrook, Walter Johnson, Magruder, Rockville and Walt Whitman High School's.  In the end it was Walter Johnson HS that took 1st place, Magruder HS took 2nd place and Kennedy took 3rd.  Kennedy was clearly the most improved squad from last years performance and it showed in the award they were given.  The squads are all judged on fundamental skill, level of difficulty, choreography/routine execution, cheerleading gymnastics and overall effect.  Wheaton HS was given the Spirit Award.   This was the 3rd year in a row the Knights have won the Spirit Award.  The award was well deserved as the girls kept their composure when an iPod containing their team's music wouldn't synch.  The team waited in formation on the floor for the music to begin for what had to seem for them like an eternity.  Luckily Wheaton Varsity Coach Kim Weaver had a backup CD which worked, and the squad began their routine to the roar of the Wheaton faithful.  The Spirit Award is given to the team that shows the most enthusiasm, sportsmanship, organization and interaction with the crowd.
