Knights Earn First Victory of Season Against Damascus

The Wheaton High School boys basketball team were able to put together a complete game for the first time in the young 2013-2014 season.   The 84-73 victory at home was a confidence boost the team needed.  Coming into the game Monday, the Knights had seen games slip away not being able to close out contests.  Previously the Knights had lost to Blake HS, Richard Montgomery HS and Blair HS.  The latter two games the Knights had third period let downs creating holes they dug themselves.  Against the Hornets it appeared Wheaton had things well in hand taking a commanding 19 point lead (62-43) in the 2rd period punctuated by a dunk from leading scorer (31 points/5 rebounds) Senior Ibraham Kallon.  Wheaton pressed Damascus forcing turnovers most of the evening. Then it was deja vu all over again.  The Hornets came roaring back lead by Senior Jhames Ngonda (22 points).  They closed the game to 68-63 with 5 minutes left in the game.  Finally the Knights put the brakes on and pulled away.  Wheaton (1-3) next takes to the road Wednesday, December 18th to face the Wootton HS Patriots (2-1) at 7pm.
