Wheaton HS Revels in Rain, Post 4th Win

The Wheaton High School Girls Soccer team kicked off the 2013 season on a high note beginning with a 3-1 start.  The best start for the team in recent years.  Then the Knights came back down to earth hitting a 3 game skid losing to Watkins Mill HS, Seneca Valley HS and Rockville HS.  The Girls Varsity Soccer team rebounded on Wednesday with a win over Northwood High School to even their record at 4-4.  The Knights took the lead in the rain soaked first half with a breakaway goal by Sophomore Beatriz Pereira. The Gladiators tied it up in the 2nd half with less than 15 minutes left.  Although it seemed the Knights controlled most of the possessions Northwood was able to break through the Knights defenses on many occasions but shots often went wide of their mark.  It only took a few minutes for Wheaton to reply.  Junior Josselyn Flores broke free and took a shot from just outside the box. The ball bounced off the left post and sailed wide right of the goal.  Josselyn got the rebound and lifted the ball over the scrambling defenders and Goalie's head just inside the upper right corner to put the Knights ahead for good.  The win doubles the victory totals from last year and is the most by a Wheaton Girls Varsity team since 2008.  The girls next play at Poolesville HS the Saturday, October 12th at noon.
