Survey Breaks Down Why People Use the Wheaton Library

In order to set about designing a new combination library and recreation center for Wheaton, it's helpful to get an idea of why people who use the current facilities go there.

That's the idea behind the survey Montgomery County conducted earlier this summer. They received 575 responses in English, Spanish and Korean, according to a presentation given at a community meeting in June. Almost 100 percent of those surveyed said they currently used the Wheaton library, but less than 40 percent said they currently used the recreation center.

In the survey, approximately 80 percent said they came to the library to do homework, to use multipurpose rooms, for entertainment or for tutoring. More than 90 percent of respondents said they visited the library to use the computer or to do research and to “do research/get information.”
