Wheaton Redevelopment to 'Help Existing Businesses'

Redeveloping three plots of land near the Wheaton Metro will add "very little" new retail, but should help existing businesses.

A plan to create a community square in downtown Wheaton won't be like downtown Silver Spring, developers recently told The Washington Post. Redeveloping three plots of land near the Wheaton Metro will add "very little" new retail, which should actually help existing businesses.

“Our intent is to put more bodies in the buildings during the day, you know, more people in the restaurants, and we’re hoping that will help existing businesses there,” said Toby S. Bozzuto, president of Bozzuto Development, one of two companies chosen for the project, according to the newspaper.

The three properties in question are all county-owned plots: The Mid-County Regional Services Center at 2406 Reedie Drive and 11143 Grandview Ave. and 2510 Ennalls Ave.—both currently parking lots.
