GreenWheaton Introduction

Introducing GreenWheaton, a group dedicated to applying environmentally-friendly building and planning technologies to the Wheaton downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods.

GreenWheaton is currently a joint sub-committee of the Wheaton Redevelopment Advisory Committee (WRAC) and the Wheaton Urban District Advisory Committee (WUDAC) dedicated to applying environmentally-friendly building and planning technologies to the Wheaton downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods.  Through Public education and outreach, we plan to:

  • Reduce the community's carbon footprint
  • Build environmentally-conscious consumers
  • Support the success of local businesses
  • Engage the community in building green, thriving neighborhoods
  • Improve air and water quality in the Sligo Creek and Rock Creek watersheds
  • Create a healthy, accessible, welcoming downtown for both pedestrians and bicyclists
  • Inter-connect the Wheaton downtown and its neighborhoods physically, functionally and thematically
  • Serve as a living laboratory for testing and modeling "Urban Greening" and "Low Impact Development" practices

We will be providing updates on "greening" Wheaton. We will also write about people who are greening Wheaton.  We will write about why it is important to have sustainable development.

Keep up with what is going on with the “greening” of Wheaton, join our email list:  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GreenWheaton/join
