Meeting Roundup: Mid County Citizens Advisory Board

No meeting next month for MCCAB. Regular schedule resumes in September.

Yesterday, the Mid-County Citizens Advisory Board held their July meeting at the Regional Service Center. Here's what was discussed:

  • The Board voted to resend their support of various capital investment projects related to the Wheaton, Olney and Mid-County area at large. Some of these projects included speeding up the construction of the Kemp Mill Urban Park, right of way study on Georgia Avenue for a possible BRT, and Wheaton's redevelopment efforts
  • Acting Director Roylene Roberts announced that Ana Lopez van Balen was nominated as the new director of the Mid-County Services Center. van Balen is currently the director of Community Bridges. Wheaton Patch will have more on this tomorrow. 
  • The County's department of transportation has started a feasibility study on creating a passageway underneath Georgia Avenue at Forest Glen Road, to improve pedestrian access to the Forest Glen Metro.
  • National Night Out, an annual event that draws attention to crimep prevention will be celebrated, at among other places, at the  on Queensguard Road. There will be entertainment and free activities for children as well as information on community programs. Donations of canned food are welcome.
  • MCCAB elected new officers. They are as follows: Gamunu (Gam) Wijetunge, chair, Richard Newman, vice chair, Ariel Winter, parliamentarian.
