The Wheaton 5: Aug. 19

Five things to help you plan your day.

1. Keep the rain gear handy one more day... today will be mostly cloudy with thunderstorms again likely to pop up. Highs will be in the upper 80s. Friday night will also be mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows will fall into the 60s.

2. Wheaton Metro Station will be closed this weekend, starting tonight at 10 p.m. Buses will replace trains between Fort Totten and Glenmont. The station is among five on the Redline undergoing major repairs, including new rails, new cables to improve cell phone coverage and preventive maintenance on elevators and escalators. More info on weekend Metro delays area-wide in Patch later this morning.

3. Don't forget to check your final back-to-school list--today and tomorrow (Aug. 20) are the last two days of Maryland's annual Tax Free Week, when apparel and footwear $100 or less are exempt from the six percent sales tax. Check the tax-free list to see all the exempt items.

4. Looking for a new place to call home (or just curious to see what that house really looks like, inside)? Get a rundown of local homes on the market and weekend open houses in today's House Hunt, this afternoon in Patch.

5. The weekend is upon us--activities abound! Tonight you can catch a free movie at Downtown Wheaton's TGIF Summer Series. Or ride down to Bethesda to get moving at Bethesda Metro Center Dance, on the Hyatt Plaza. If there are still holes in your weekend planner, check our Get Out list for more ideas.
