The Wheaton 5: Aug. 23

Five things to help you plan your day

1. It's a repeat performance: today we'll have another sunny, beautiful day with highs in the lower 80s and a light northwest breeze of around 5 mph. Tonight will be mostly clear, with lows dropping back into the cool-ish 50s.

2. Do your part to reduce Wheaton's carbon footprint by coming out this evening for Green Wheaton's monthly meeting. Now a non-profit group, Green Wheaton orginally formed in 2009 to recommend environmentally-friendly measures for the Wheaton Sector Plan update. The meeting will be held from 7-8 p.m. at the Mid-County Community Center, 2424 Reedie Dr.

3. Afternoon power outages following this weekend's storms were mostly resolved by evening; but does the latest performance mean the utility provider's overall service is improving? This week's Parsons on Politics tackled the question--and the debate rages on. If you missed it, catch up and join the conversation in the comments.

4. Coming up later today, our Mom of a Million Mistakes confesses to one more: another summer without hiring enough childcare. Stay tuned.

5. It's Tuesday, which means the weekly Thrift Shop at (12901 Georgia Ave.) is open for business, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by to shop or drop off some items to donate as you enjoy the day.
