Here are five things to know today in Wheaton.

1. Today's forecast: Partly sunny and windy, with highs around 60. There's a chance that rain may roll in this evening, with lows around 40.

2. This Friday, Brookside Gardens will host Green Matters: Urban Farming Pioneers, a symposium highlighting innovative approaches to feeding the world’s population. 

Kathleen Merrigan, Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will speak about the USDA's Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food (KYF2) initiative.

3. In case you missed it yesterday, the Department of Permitting Services has approved Westfield’s parking waiver application. Therefore, Westfield will not be required to construct more parking at the Wheaton Mall for Costco.

Today is the last day to submit letters and emails to the Montgomery County Council in order to be part of the packet that the Planning, Housing and Economic Development Committee, chaired by Councilmember Nancy Floreen, will review for next week’s Wheaton Redevelopment CIP discussion.
