The Wheaton Five for Valentine's Day

Five things to know for this Valentine's Day in Wheaton: development, singing valentines, artwork and more. (Wait, what? ...development?!)

1) Glenmont Sector Plan Public Hearing

What's more romantic than talking about development and smart growth? (Said no one, ever.) And yet, the Montgomery County Planning Board has scheduled a Feb. 14 public hearing at 5 p.m. for the Glenmont Sector Plan, a document that will guide development in Glenmont for the next 15-20 years. If you already made that dinner reservation for two, don't sweat it. Patch will cover the public hearing.

2) Singing Valentines

Have you ever wanted to tell your someone special just how much you love him or her--but then when the time comes, the words fail you? The Capital Accord Chorus comes to the rescue each Valentine's Day with Singing Valentines. Hear one of their songs and let it be an inspiration for those sweet nothings.

3) Hand-Made Valentines

Who doesn't love the valentines that elementary schoolchildren make with construction paper and glitter? Catch the cuteness bug with this photo gallery of colorful hearts created by Glenallan Elementary School students. Upload your own photos on Patch and share the adorable creativity.

4) MAA Gallery

Are you a fan of local artists? Take your sweetheart to the February show at the Montgomery Art Association Gallery in the Wheaton mall. The show features the artwork of Sara Becker, and the gallery is open Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

5) Brookside Gardens

Flowers? Check! The conservatory spring display features winter jasmine, snapdragons, geraniums, birds of paradise and more. Inside the Brookside Gardens Visitors Center, admire drawings and paintings by the Botanical Art Society of the National Capital Region and nature photography by Yuan Li.
