Three Red Line Stations Closed This Weekend

Red Line trains will run every 10 minutes between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., and every 15 minutes at other times.

Are you riding Metro this weekend? The following stations will be closed: Rhode Island Avenue, Brookland and Fort Totten.

Free shuttle buses will replace Red Line trains between the NoMa-Gallaudet and Takoma stations "for ongoing platform reconstruction, communication system improvements, rail renewal and DDOT bridge work," according to Metro's website.

The work will start at 10 p.m. on Friday, March 1, and will continue through closing time on Sunday, March 3.

Red Line trains will operate in two segments: between Glenmont and Takoma and between NoMa-Gallaudet and Shady Grove, Metro reported. Trains will operate every 10 minutes from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., and every 15 minutes at other times.

Customers using the free shuttle bus service between NoMa-Gallaudet and Takoma stations should add up to 40 minutes to the travel time, and may wish to use Green Line trains between Fort Totten and Gallery Place to avoid the work zone, Metro reported.

"To allow for bus connections, the last train of the night from Glenmont to Takoma will depart 38 minutes earlier than normal—at 1:59 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, and at 10:59 p.m. on Sunday night," Metro added.

In related Metro news, David Kubicek, Metro's deputy general manager for operations, is resigning, effective March 18, according to The Washington Post.

"For riders, perhaps Kubicek’s most [visible] move was pushing for more rail-repair work to be done over weekends, which had the effect of trains running less frequently and led to some dips in ridership. But Metro said it helped to get more work done in non-rush-hour times," The Post reported.
