What You Need to Know About Metro for President's Day Weekend

Closures on orange and blue lines.

The Metro will have serious problems this weekend because of closures on Orange and Blue lines. Here's all the details for this long weekend:

  • Closer to home, completion of the work on the first Wheaton escalator has been pushed back to March 1st.
  • Red Line will be single-tracking on Friday, 10 p.m. until close on Feb 21st from Shady Grove to Twinbrook (to make repairs to the Rockville Metro station platform), and from Rhode Island Avenue to New York Avenue. Trains will depart every 15 minutes from each end of the Red Line, and more frequently from downtown areas that are not being single-tracked.
  • Last trains will run as follows on the weekend: Shady Grove, 2:10 a.m. Glenmont: 2:17 a.m.  And on Sunday and Monday: Shady Grove, 11:10 p.m. Glenmont, 11:17 p.m.
  • There will be no train service between Metro Center and L'Enfant on the Orange and Blue lines, and the stops in between will be closed. Metro will run free shuttle buses along the route, but add 40 minutes to your travel time if you want to even attempt that.
  • Metro is replacing four tracks between those stations.
