Ladies' Hike Out - Spring: Ten Mile Creek

Springtime in Montgomery County arrives early and unobtrusively. Buds
on the spicebush swell, red-winged blackbirds appear at feeders, spring peepers
peep tentatively and only on sunny days, and gray mud sticks to our boots. As
we explore the trails around the county we’ll greet these harbingers of spring
and welcome the chance to be outside after a long winter confinement.
Directions to the trail head will be provided prior to the hike. Our last best
stream upcounty, Ten Mile Creek empties into Little Seneca Lake and is
partially encompassed by Black Hill Regional Park. Visiting the forests and
meadows that surround it, we’ll look for early spring wildflowers, evidence of
beavers, and signs of migrating birds while we learn the benefits of protecting
its fragile watershed. Please register all attendees. Brookside Nature Center, 1400 Glenallan Ave., Wheaton.  301-962-1480, www.brooksidenature.org. Register
