Parenting & Education: Informed, Involved, Engaged

Answering questions and concerns about how to support our children's education.

Almost at every turn, there's discussion around the new Curriculum 2.0, new tests, and the achievement gap.  What is "composing" and "decomposing" in math (and what happened to carrying the 1?), what classes do kids really need to take in high school, how do we close the achievement gap?

Going forward in this blog space, I plan to consider those questions and more, providing suggestions, ideas, information for you to become a more informed, involved, and engaged parent in your child's education.  I'll check in with local agencies who work with kids, talk to some of our local school staff, and peek in on the PTA and parent groups to see what's going on in our schools.  Policy? Not so much. Politics. Nah.  How to help your kid with his homework? Sure. What to do over the summer to keep the kids learning? Definitely.  How you can help out at school? Yes.

Any questions, suggestions, concerns?  Shoot them to me and if it fits in my range of concerns and I find the answer, I'll post it here.
