Ahoy! 5 Ways to Celebrate 'Talk Like a Pirate Day'

Take a cruise, have a drink or grab a shrimp in Maryland for "Talk Like a Pirate Day."

Of all the silly things to spend a day celebrating, "International Talk Like a Pirate Day," is up there pretttty high. Nonetheless, if ever you need a reason to sprinkle words like "ahoy" into your work emails, here it is.

No idea how it started or when, but there are plenty of ways to celebrate in 'ye old Maryland:

1) Use this English-to-Pirate translator. Need to express surprise? "Shiver me timbers!" A quick hello? "Ahoy." Etc., etc., etc.

2) Grab a bite at a Long John Silver's. Find the pirate-approved fast food joint in Capitol Heights, Odenton, Forestville, Brooklyn and Baltimore in Maryland. Use the above-mentioned translator to order.

3) Head to the high seas. Urban Pirates in Baltimore offer cruises each Thursday through November. In honor of this holy day, they're offering cruises at 4 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. leaving from Fells Point.

4) Grab a pint (and another bite) at Piratz Tavern. This famed Silver Spring restaurant is as authentic as any matey could hope. Costumes and appropriately titled drinks will make any land-locked feller feel like he's, well, not. It's open until 1 a.m. and the kitchen stays open until 10 p.m. (8402 Georgia Ave.)

5) Reconnect with Jack Sparrow. You didn't think we were going to forget the most famous modern-day pirates on Pirates of the Caribbean, did you? Choose from any of the four pirate-filled adventure films to close out the day right.
