Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice was arrested in Atlantic City early Saturday morning after a physical altercation with his fiancee, according to news reports

There were no injuries to either party, Sgt. Monica McMenamin told The Atlantic City Press. A simple assault complaint was signed against each by the responding officer.

Officers Cuong Sam and Byron Hargis responded to the Revel Casino just before 3 a.m., and were taken to Rice and Janay Palmer, the Press reported.

Surveillance video shows both parties were involved in a physical altercation, according to the report.

The complaint summons indicates that both Rich and Palmer struck each other with their hands, McMenamin said.

"Both Palmer and Rice refused any medical attention as no injuries were reported by either party," McMenamin said.

The couple were transported to the Atlantic City Police Department holding facility, and later released on a summons to appear in court.

The Baltimore Sun reported that Rice's attorney Andrew Alperstein described it as a "very minor physical altercation," identifying Palmer as Rice's fiancee.

"We are aware of the Friday night situation with Ray Rice and his fiancee," the Baltimore Ravens said in a news release. "We have spoken with Ray, and know that they returned home together after being detained."

Rice is a three-time Pro Bowler with the Ravens. After helping lead the Ravens to a Super Bowl title in February 2013, Rice struggled last season, rushing for 660 yards on 214 carries.

Jack Galvin February 17, 2014 at 09:44 AM
Oh come on PEOPLE....COPS & the LAZY PRESS get a LIFE. !!!...MIND your OWN damn BUSINESS...This will not TARNISH anybodys image..MY GOD Couples have been arguing since the begining of TIME....GET REAL MORONS....

Wow isn't this Mr. Nationally supported stop bullying! Maybe he needs to stop bullying woman or practice what he preaches! Smh ass
Jack Galvin February 17, 2014 at 09:51 AM
As for MEN bullying 6'5" 340 lbs offensive linemen in the LOCKER ROOM ...making MILLIONS of dollars a year to play a GAME....PLEASE....liberal/communist STOP PUSSYFIEING our ATHLETES.....
SPHS1965 February 17, 2014 at 09:55 AM
Double D..... actually I did not see the article you are referring to but I stand by my opinion. Just because someone is a professional ball player in my opinion does not make them a role model. I really dont think he should praised for doing community work and I don't think he should be criticized for his personal life. It's his business. Good or bad.
JaySmith February 17, 2014 at 12:47 PM
Hey SPHS: If we think it's disgusting that one of our Ravens' players smacks his fiancee.......then that is our feeling about it. You can have your feeling about it. So stop whining that we don't agree with you. And you are correct that it doesn't have much to do with 'role model' We know that. But it's still disgusting what Ray Rice did, smacked her. Even if she slapped him first. He's pathetic. I won't pay to see Ravens live, OR Redskins live. They don't deserve my entertainment dollars
SPHS1965 February 17, 2014 at 12:55 PM
Jay Smith where did you go to school? Can you read? I am saying that I don't think he should be a role model, period. I think it's disgusting that he hit a woman also which is why I said he should not be used as a role model. Learn to read before your make your self look so stupid.
Patrick Carter February 17, 2014 at 01:28 PM
Nothing good happens after 2:00 AM especially when alcohol and crazy bitches are involved. Ray Rice needs to concentrate on his struggling career instead of all night partying. No one has ever accused Ray Rice of being a role model he is a ball player, nothing more. Any one who worships athletes needs to get a life and check into a clinic 75% of them are morons.
SPHS1965 February 17, 2014 at 01:32 PM
Actually Patrick, the first person to post to this (Tom) referred to him as a role model which is what prompted my comments that he should not be considered a role model.
SPHS1965 February 17, 2014 at 02:10 PM
And I agree with you 100% Patrick....athletes should not be worshipped. I said the same thing in an earlier post that you said....He's just a ball player.

WHY is the initial blame ALWAYS on the man? Women can and in many cases ARE the initial attackers AND instigators. Therefore, if YOU don't want to be hit, DON'T hit! Two WRONGS will NEVER be right and snap judgment is just as WRONG.
SPHS1965 February 17, 2014 at 02:57 PM
A real double edge sword Not Perfect.....a man can usually do a lot more harm to a woman then a woman can do to a man. However, I once had a friend who during argument with husband, accused him of sleeping with his mother. He decked her. Can't say that I blame him in that case.
Bob Higginbotham February 17, 2014 at 06:36 PM
Just another egotistical idiot that thinks too much of himself. Like his buddy Ray Lewis he is a very poor role model but then none of these useless prima donnas care as long as they get their money for playing a kid game.
JaySmith February 17, 2014 at 09:15 PM
Hey HPHS1965: I'll respond to your ( rudely-phrased and inappropriate) questions, and offer up more. I graduated cum laude from Occidental College in Los Angeles County in 1979, 3 months before Obama began there.....and unlike Obama, I majored in a real subject.... Mathematics. His classes and grades are under lock and key, unreleased and unavailable. As for 'not reading' what you wrote, I did, & wasn't responding 100% literally to your first comment but to its gist. You slammed Tom's comment that Ray Rice is a role model and you did NOT respond to the factual nature of Rice's gross misconduct in A.C. You wrote " HE SHOULD NOT BE A ROLE MODEL". Well, sorry to tell you about the real world SP....but Ray IS a role model for hundreds if not thousands of Baltimore city kids who received his jersey from parents over the last few years and Rice is a CELEBRITY of sorts. AND he volunteered for charities like anti-bullying ones.....to PUT HIMSELF out there in the community to be a "GOOD GUY" just like Tom said !! So......DEAL WITH IT HP......Ray put himself out there to represent himself as a 'good guy' FOR THE RAVENS just like Tom wrote. Whether he SHOULD BE, is another story and is irrelevant. Your point is IRRELEVANT. And YES....as I wrote earlier, your earlier point is correct that he should NOT be a role model . But that's NO LONGER the point for 2 reasons stated above. Now......what's YOUR level of education? Oh, and I'm a professional with ALOT more schooling than just cum laude undergraduate major in mathematics. And I KNOW I'm not a genius -- but I'm wondering why you're so dense to Tom's point, and mine.
JaySmith February 17, 2014 at 09:22 PM
HP: Tom & I are anxious to read your comments. Don't forget to tell us your fabulous level of education....AND to back up your points that Ray Rice should NOT be a role model.....WE KNOW HE SHOULDN'T.......but he put himself out there as a good guy, so try to get past that. Don't repeat your obvious irrelevancies again
Steven Spiegel February 17, 2014 at 09:38 PM
I don't understand why everyone says that he is not a role model . Maybe I am missing the true definition. When sports figures go out of there way to teach kids not to do this and not to do that they become role models ! I agree if a 45 year old uses them as a role model that's a problem but children and teens look up to these guys and that's what I always believed was a role model someone we look up to !!! What I don't understand is why the these guys Drink and carry on in public they are just asking for negative publicity . And I don't want to hear that they have to have a life other then football hell if I made the money they did I would be making sure I didn't do anything to attract attention to myself. And I would not be drinking I would be getting proper sleep and working out so that I can be worth the money I am getting paid which its no way anyone should be worth that much money . They should be spending Millions to help kids get a education . Teachers should be getting paid instead of some asshole who can run with a football.
SPHS1965 February 17, 2014 at 09:42 PM
Jay you must really be dense. Where do you get that I SLAMMED Tom? I simply made a comment that I didn't think Ray should be held as a roll model. I have every right to make such a comment just as you did when you listed your educational accomplishments (which is hysterical that you feel the need). So when you have time, why not reread my initial post (slowly) and maybe, just maybe, you will see it's not a SLAM, it a simple comment.
JaySmith February 17, 2014 at 10:00 PM
No......not dense. Tom started all this off, very intelligently, and your main comment to him was " He should not be a role model". Instead of going to the topic......you disagreed with Tom's statement. But........WHATEVER.........you deal with "SHOULDS", instead of the "IS". What are your educational accomplishments, since you tried to slam me, I rebutted, now let's hear yours. Waiting.......
JaySmith February 17, 2014 at 10:06 PM
S Spiegel: EXACTLY !! ESPECIALLY when they go out in the community and TRY to be a role model for the young. Whether they SHOULD be thought that way is another story, but many of them TRY to be.....alot like Tiger Woods with his commercials implying how glorious he is....then he got caught by his wife and revealed as a total scumbag.
SPHS1965 February 17, 2014 at 10:07 PM
Jay give it a rest. You are now being childish and redundant. I'm done.
JaySmith February 17, 2014 at 10:14 PM
SPHS: Did you really write this, above? " However, I once had a friend who during argument with husband, accused him of sleeping with his mother. He decked her. Can't say that I blame him in that case." SPHS: So you had a woman friend who was "decked' by her husband and you thought that was appropriate? Goodnight. You're a little too 'far out' for those of us in the civilized world. Oh, and what's your level of education, and accomplishments? We're waiting.
Steven Spiegel February 17, 2014 at 11:12 PM
Hey Jack Galvin You act like its no big deal for a man to get into a argument and slap his girl ! When you go out do you smack your girl when she gets out of line after all the cops and everyone need to mind there own business . I hope they through the book at his dumb ass just because he is a athlete don't make him above the law . When you become a sports figure and make all that money you might as well face it your life becomes public Image so you better either get used to it or don't get into it . I hope the girls brother or father pistol whips his ass I don't know were you come from but were I do you don't beat on women !!!!!!!
Justin case February 18, 2014 at 01:01 PM
He's a scumbag for putting his hands on a woman and needs to be prosecuted fully. If it's on tape enough to charge him then there's no denying it. A slap, a punch....whatever it turns out to be, he should be kicked out of the NFL and learn to flip burgers
Shaka Zulu February 18, 2014 at 01:46 PM
who cares, let them put gloves on and have a celebrity battle of the sexes
Steven Spiegel February 18, 2014 at 09:51 PM
Its good to see that there are still good Men in this world that think that hitting women is wrong . I have been with my wife for 20 years had a drinking and Drug problem in my younger days . I have been in plenty of a stooper But can say honestly That I have never raised a hand at her . Don't get me wrong there were times when I wanted to but even though I was all screwed up I always managed to control myself . So if it comes out that Ray was drinking and tries to use that as a cop out its not going to be good enough for me or anyone else for that matter. I believe that this girl should also be taught a lesson if she hit him first but no matter if she did the man is a NFL football player who could probably fart and knock most people down . I don't think he should be able to play football anymore and if the Ravens turn a blind eye to this it will be a cold day in Hell before I would support them as a team Not that it would make or brake them its just my personal opinion. I don't believe in the Beating of women . That's the way my father raised me and I am glad of that God rest his soul .
JaySmith February 19, 2014 at 07:06 AM
SS: Great points ! And she probably DID slap him hard, first. But then he should have instinctively held up his arms to protect himself and turned and walked away. THAT would have been the manly thing to do. Hey SPHS, we're still waiting for your level of education and accomplishments.......waiting.....
Steven Spiegel February 19, 2014 at 02:30 PM
Hey Not perfect what a good name for you !!!!! I read your Post and I don't know if its me but your statement did not make no sense at all . Could you please elaborate a little on the part that you said don't hit if you don't want to get hit back or two wrongs don't make a right . Ill tell you what if some asshole hits my daughter I don't care if she hit him first or not I am going to make him wish he never met my family . I have been kicked slapped punched by woman and have never laid a hand back on them . I also have been in a relationship around the OJ Trail time were a girl friend of mine called the police when I was getting ready to leave her and when they got there no question asked they locked me up . Like a Idiot I went back to her about a month later and the same shit happened but this time I had a Black eye from her and guess who they locked up ? I then left and never went back because I new I was so pissed off at her that if I did go back I may have lost control . Being a Man I believe part of it is being able to control Your behavior and your actions. If you cant you will 2 find yourself on the wrong end of the cell !!!!
Not Perfect February 19, 2014 at 10:22 PM
@steven spiegel: violence sometimes breeds violence. I stand wholeheartedly by my post! If a woman OR man is with a mate that the only way to resolve conflict is by physical force, then they BOTH are IDIOTS. Anyone who condones a woman hitting a man and the man not defending himself is also an IDIOT! If one does NOT want to be hit then, DON'T hit! Not every person is willing to walk away...ANYONE, male or female in an abusive relationship has to find the strength somehow to LEAVE before it goes too far. I would hope you teach your daughter that she is TOO GOOD to be with someone who wants to hit her and that he is TOO GOOD to be hit as well. ANY parent to teaches their child to abuse another, in ANY MANNER, is NOT fit to be a parent.
Steven Spiegel February 20, 2014 at 08:46 AM
Not perfect I still don't agree with your hitting a woman back . Is it to much to just walk away ? When the police get there after you swing back tell them that and see how far that gets you . If you would rather go to jail and get a Battery charge then by all means that is your business . I don't know about you but I am 6ft 2 and I weight 200 lbs and have been a bricklayer my whole adult life . I would be afraid to hit half the men I see in fear of killing them let alone a 5ft 2 woman who goes about 105 Lbs soaking ringing wet. Know if a man hits a man to me its on I would fight but I believe we should treat every woman as we would treat our own Mother !!! Would you hit your own Mother . I don't care how you try to twist it a woman beater is a woman beater ! And I would not teach my kids to be abusive to anyone .
Steven Spiegel March 15, 2014 at 10:25 PM
Justin Case U are right . I don't care what a woman hits a man with if you are a pussy and cant handle a woman's slap you don't belong dating women . I have been hit a few times by girls when I was younger and most of the time I deserved it . I never hit them back . Men should treat women like they would treat there own mother . I guess the guys on here that condone hitting a woman back would slap there own mother. To all you guys who condone hitting women all I can say is get a grip and take it like a man . Know if a Man swings on me they might as well get ready for a fight .
