Event Spotlight: Safe Seniors Day

Seniors and adults with elderly parents are invited to attend a Friday afternoon event at Holiday Park Senior Center.

Friday is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and the Montgomery County Vulnerable Adult and Elder Abuse Task Force is sponsoring "Safe Seniors Day" at Holiday Park Senior Center, 3950 Ferrara Drive, in Wheaton.

The event, which runs from 1-3:30 p.m., is not just for seniors though, said Capt. Kathi Rhodes, who directs the Montgomery County Police Family Crimes Division. It's also for those in the "sandwich generation": adults with children still at home, as well as elderly parents who need care.

"Safe Seniors" will cover many aspects of well-being: health, personal safety, home safety, protection from financial exploitation, emergency preparedness, and more.
