Four Firefighters Injured in Kemp Mill House Fire

A recently abandoned home went up in flames early Saturday morning.

Four firefighters sustained minor injuries while trying to quell the flames of a house fire in the Kemp Mill neighborhood of Silver Spring Saturday morning.

Approximately 80 fire and rescue workers responded shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday to 11118 Nicholas Drive around. The fire began on the first floor of the home and reached up into the attic.

Four firefighters were injured in the fire and treated at local hospitals, according to a release from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services reports.

Investigators said that the fire began under the kitchen sink, but extensive fire damage to the area makes determining the exact cause of the fire difficult, according to the news release.

The home had been rented out, but was recently vacated by the previous tenants, fire officials said.

Damage to the home is estimated to be $200,000.
