UPDATE: Gas Line Leak Reported in Aspen Hill Shopping Center

A nearby bank was evacuated after a gas leak was reported in Aspen Hill.

Update, 2:41 p.m.:

Washington Gas shut down the gas line and began repairs at 1:18 p.m., according to Captain Oscar Garcia of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services. He added that repairs will take approximately three hours. 

The gas line has been shut off to the Wells Fargo Bank and a nearby three-story office building (13975 Georgia Avenue), but other businesses in the area are unaffected, he said.

A construction crew struck a gas line in the parking area of an Aspen Hill shopping center at 13900 Georgia Avenue at approximately 12:30 p.m., according to Garcia.

Fire and rescue workers have evacuated the at 13920 Georgia Avenue, and Garcia said they are evaluating whether a three-story office building should also be evacuated.

Garcia said that Washington Gas has been notified and their estimated time of arrival is 30 minutes.
